The Objective of the Conference
A thousand years ago, Central Asia developed a brilliant civilization. Predominantly Central Asian Turkic-nomadic culture and Islam in addition to the contributions of Hindu, Chinese, Persian, Arabic, and Greek cultures gave birth to a cultural renaissance in Turkestan in the 11th century. This period, golden age of Central Asia, was the time of great scholars and poets. Yusuf Balasaguni, born in Balasagun, situated on the territory of today's Kyrgyzstan, wrote his famous book "Kutadgu Bilig" (Beneficient Knowledge) in Kashgar, today in Uygur region of northwest China, both cities as important cultural centers of that age on the great Silk Road. An international conference and discussion on 'Yusuf Balasaguni and his Ideas in the Contemporary World', aimed at bringing together academicians and experts from different universities at different countries on an academic platform, will be specifically meaningful when held in such an era in which inter-civilizational dialogue has gained special importance.

- His philosophy
- His moral ideas
- Literary and linguistic analyses
Abstract submission deadline: February 1, 2005
Final paper submission deadline: April 1, 2005

Submissions:
Submissions should include in word format:
- Title of the paper, Abstract (not more than 350 words; please pay attention to provide a title and an abstract in line with each other, and the abstract should be informative for non-specialists), Key words (up to 5-6 ), Full names and affiliation of all authors, Corresponding author's name, full postal address, telephone number, fax number, email address
- Submissions are accepted in English, Russian, Kyrgyz, and Turkish languages
- Notification of acceptance will be emailed to the authors of accepted papers by May 1, 2005
- Papers have to be emailed as attachments in word format to Murat Bakir or Halim Nezihoglu or Iskender Ormonuulu
- All the papers presented at the conference will be published in the conference proceedings.
Funding and Accommodation
We regret that we cannot offer any funding for international travel expenditures. The University will help the participants for their accommodation needs.
Paper format
- All papers should be 1.5 lines spaced with 12 font size (Times New Roman)
- Margins should be (4.00) at the top and left, (2.5cm) at the bottom and right
- Limits: Approximately 20 pages.
